There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is banned. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains numerous conveniences aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
